Speak

When’s the last time you read a teen fiction novel about learning how to speak, friendship, good vs. evil, AND bravery? Even if you’ve read one before, you’ve never read one like this. Laurie Halse Anderson wrote an easy to read book for Jr. – High School students. It’s about Melinda Sordino who starts her freshman year of high school as an outcast. She busts a summer party by calling the cops because she got raped. No one knows what really happened that night, not even her “friends”, or who she thought were her friends. It’s a funny book, even though it’s a dark, scary part of a girl’s life.

Girls, your rap was amazing!!! I absolutely loved it! Wonderful work!

Speak is a great novel. I am glad you girls decided to read it. It touches on a lot of important issues about growing up and finding your voice. I believe most young adults could benefit from reading this novel.
